About the incident
In Lakhimpur Kheri, violence erupted during Sunday’s farmers’ protest, killing eight people, including farmers and BJP workers.
Ashish Misra, the son of Union minister Ajay Misra, is suspected of running over a group of protesting farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, killing four people. Following the deaths of the farmers, clashes resulted in the deaths of four more people.
Four of the dead were passengers in the automobiles, presumably part of a BJP motorcade that had arrived to greet UP minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. They were beaten to death, according to reports.
Farmer’s demands
Farmers wanted a one-crore compensation for the deceased, an FIR for “murder” against the minister’s son, a government job for one member of each farmer’s family, and a judicial investigation into the occurrence.
Ajay Mishra has said that his son was not present at the scene.
