Offering brighter prospects of a second, permanent career for youths who complete their four-year stint in the armed forces under the Agnipath scheme; the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) announced a 10% quota. As well as upper age limit relaxation for Agniveers for recruitment in the Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles. Making the decisions public, home minister Amit Shah tweeted: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) decides to reserve 10% vacancies for recruitment in CAPFs and Assam Rifles for Agniveers”. The MHA also decided to give 3 years of age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit to Agniveers for recruitment in CAPFs & Assam Rifles.

The latest set of announcements by the MHA is aimed at 75% of the Agniveers.

Further, for the first batch of Agniveer; the age relaxation will be for 5 years beyond the prescribed upper age limit. The latest set of announcements by the MHA is aimed at 75% of the Agniveers. Who will be demobilized after serving in the Armed forces for four years? As per the Agnipath scheme, they will be offered an exit or “Seva Nidhi” package of Rs 11-12 lakh. Partly funded by their monthly contributions, as well as skill certificates and bank loans for help in their second careers.

A day after the government announced the Agnipath scheme. Which, incidentally, has riled a large section of youths and led to countrywide protests, including those involving violence. Shah had announced that Agniveers would be accorded priority for recruitment into the CAPFs and Assam Rifles.
