The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic formally the Games of the XXXII Olympiad and patented as ‘Tokyo 2020’, is a current intercontinental multi-sport event that is presently being held from 23rd July till 8th August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. The introductory event began on 21st July 2021. The Paralympics are planned to take place from August 24th to September 5th, 2021 after the completion of the Olympics.
Formerly, Tokyo had hosted the Olympics Games in 1964 and this is the second time it will be held in Japan, Tokyo. During the 125th IOC Session in Argentina, Buenos Aires, Tokyo was selected as the host city for conducting the Olympics Games. The event was originally scheduled to take place from 24th July 2020, however, due to the result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed to March 2020. The event is being held largely behind closed doors with no public audiences, under a state of emergency.
Despite being rearranged for 2021, the event retains the name ‘Tokyo 2020’ for branding and advertising. This is the first time in history that the Olympic Games have been put off and rearranged, rather than annulled. Tokyo is the initial city in Asia to hold the Summer Games twice.
New competitions have been introduced in the 2020 games like freestyle BMX, 3×3 basketball, softball, Madison cycling, softball, and baseball. The new IOC policies permitted the host organizing committee to add new sports to the Olympic program to enhance the everlasting core events. Games like surfing, skateboarding, sport climbing, karate made their Olympic debuts this year. Despite the requirement for widespread testing to take place in advance of the Games, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) specified that public healthiness and wellbeing were their top precedence. As per the estimation which was conducted by a professor of Kansai, the cost of delaying the 2020 Olympics by one year would be 640.00 billion yen, taking maintenance expenses for the unused amenities into justification.
